UCSB Health & Wellness Interns promotes the mental, physical and social health of all students by enhancing individual skills and positive relationships with families, peers and the UCSB/Isla Vista community.
Health & Wellness Internships
Wednesdays, 7 - 9 p.m. Building 434, Room 147. Fall, Winter & Spring Quarters
All UCSB students interested in Health & Wellness at UCSB are invited to attend Volunteer meetings on a drop in basis. These meetings include life & health skills training, group discussion, professional development, community service sign-ups, social connection and healthy food demos/snack at every meeting. For students interested in health skills certification and more complex responsibilities, additional requirements are necessary. The 1st step is showing up for the Wednesday night meeting.
The Health & Wellness Advocates are a group of students that educate their peers on a variety of health and wellness topics. Health topics include alcohol and other drugs, stress management, positive psychology, healthy eating, body image, sexual health, and relationships. The advocates train weekly in life skills and health skills. Advocates sign up to assist with Health & Wellness events and programs.
Health & Wellness Interns work collaboratively in support of the H&W mission to us evidence based strategies to improve student well-being at UCSB. H&W Interns serve as liaisons to the student community and assist in the development of effective programs, services and resources. Interns will work as a team and be assigned projects based on their interests, training, and campus needs.
Marketing Team interns are required to be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite* and Microsoft Office suite. Responsibilities include creation and dissemination of health promotion message campaigns, programming and services. Interns will be assigned projects based on their interests, training, and campus needs. This is a highly collaborative internship, so it is likely that applicants will be asked to help other interns with various tasks. Positions can include: social media, editor, writer, videographer, photographer, graphic designer, and marketing team coordinator.

RHA Health & Wellness staff works with first year students in their residence halls. In the fall, as a part of the Residence Hall Association leadership, one student from each building is elected to be a Health and Wellness Chair. RHA HAWCs serve as a bridge between Residential Life and Health & Wellness Programs. They provide information, programming and resources to their peers. In return RHA HAWCs receive professional development and connections to caring peers and staff in the Health & Wellness community.
Safer Sex Peers exist so that UCSB students are able to access FREE condoms, dental dams, lubricant, and sexual health information. Their role is to act as a vital resource in the residence halls to provide free safer sex supplies and to answer sexual health questions in a non-judgmental, safe space.
