UCSB Happiness Challenge

UCSB Happiness Challenge

"If I know everything about your external world, it can only predict 10% of your long-term happiness. 90 percent of your long-term happiness is predicted not by the external world, but by the way your brain processes the world."

- Shawn Achor

Welcome to the Gaucho Happiness Challenge, a series of mini-challenges designed to enhance student well-being at UCSB. Brought to you by Health & Wellness and ED191W, each week provides a "wellness topic" with research-based information, a challenge, and other supplemental resources. References will be listed at the end of each week for more information.

This is a go-at-your-own-pace tool designed around a study that combined results from 51 randomized controlled studies. Research found that people prompted to engage in positive, intentional activities such as thinking gratefully, optimistically, or mindfully became significantly happier (Sin & Lyubomirsky, 2009).
