Consent is a mutual, voluntary, informed decision between two sober and clear-minded participants before, and during, any and every intimate act. What defines consent can be easily remembered by the acronym FRIES: freely given, reversible, informed, enthusiastic, and specific. Consent does not only apply to sex, it can apply to a range of intimate acts between two or more individuals. These activities can include: giving consent before venting about an emotional experience/trauma, before giving hugs, and more.
